As the first of the eight Desert Islands to open to the public Sir Bani Yas is a must see for those seeking adventure and nature experiences. The Island is one of the largest natural islands in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and offers a world of natural wonders, cultural artefacts, exciting adventures and serene escapes.
Located just eight kilometres off the shore of the Western region of Abu Dhabi, Sir Bani Yas Island was originally home to Arabia's largest wildlife reserve. Spanning over 87 square kilometres, the reserve was established by the late ruler and founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Thanks to two decades of intensive conservation work and ecological investment, it is now home to thousands of large free-roaming animals and over 2.5 million trees and plants. A bird sanctuary as well as a wildlife reserve, Sir Bani Yas showcases nature through activities such as adventure safaris, bird watching, mountain biking, hiking and snorkelling.
