Dalma Island
With a rich human history dating back some 7,500 years Dalma Island is an island at the heart of the nation. It was here the first pearls were fished out of the sea and where the first dates were cultivated.
Inspired by, and building upon the existing dhow marina, the local fishing and boat building culture will be transformed into a waterfront destination alive with daily activities and local traditions.
Key to the development of Dalma Island is the Desert Islands Education Centre, which is a state-of-the art educational facility catering for the local community. The Centre was created with one objective in mind: to empower the local population, through means of education, to take part in the growing tourism industry, on and off the island. As the destination grows and the need for more diverse skills increase, the Centre will enhance offerings and up-skill locals to take part in the new offerings.
