Name: Amer Braik
Job Title: Guide – Sir Bani Yas Island.
Origins:
Jordan

"I love being a guide at Desert Islands. I have worked for 7 years in the tourism industry and I really love informing visitors about the wildlife, attractions and cultural, religious and archaeological sites.

Every day there is something new and different that makes the activities interesting – interacting with the guests and meeting new people from different cultures and back grounds.

Because we are part of the late Sheikh Zayed’s vision of protecting the wildlife, marine life and the environment, we aim to pass his environmentally aware messages onto future generations.

Working at Desert Islands is like a dream for every guide in the world. We are so lucky to spend our days doing Nature & Wildlife Drives, mountain biking, kayaking, snorkelling and archery."

Origins: Agadir, Morocco

"I love working on Desert Islands because we get to mix with a lot of different people from around the world. The location is very peaceful so it’s a nice place to live and work.

My work is very varied. A lot of time is spent at the hotel greeting guests and booking them into the activities. The rest of my time is spent with management, allocating guides and managing our resources such as our guides, sporting equipment and vehicles. I feel very lucky to live and work in such a special place."

Name: Kerry Martheze
Job title: Water Activities Specialist
Origins: Johannesburg, South Africa

"Desert Islands is completely unique. It’s great to be part of something growing that not many people will have seen before. I love working with water, people and animals!

My favourite activities involve taking guests snorkelling and kayaking. I just love the water! There is always something different to see, a new fish or bird, or something special will happen like we’ll paddle into a school of flying fish which is an extremely beautiful experience.

There’s so much to be seen on Desert Islands, the historical sites, the different activities, the beautiful salt dome hilltops and beaches, there really is something for everyone here."
